Running 540 stock

Postby Xenosis » Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:22 pm

Okay, hey guys. I want to get back into on road eletric racing.
I have a TA04 Chassis with a 540 can, upgraded springs and gear ratios.

Is there a class for this type of car? that it will be 'competitive" enough, or do i have to go out and splooge on carbon hop ups, titanium screws etcetc and run a 540 silver can to compete?

Thanks for your help

That would be fine for 540 Pro. I've had TA04's in the past and in its day they were a good car. I think the car is outdated now in regards to front of the pack 540 racing, competitive 540 racing really requires heatsink and fan cooling now and its near impossible to run these on a TA04. There is a modification that can be done on the motor mount to achieve better gear ratios, but i fear the motor would heat up even more and possibly fail. Your equipment as it sits should be fine, but after a while you may find yourself wanting to go faster.

Short answer is: 540 Pro is the class your after, but i wouldnt spend money on the chassis. Have a run around the track for 6mins and see how hot the motor is. The guys at Keilor are an awesome group and know plenty about the Tamiya cars and 540 motors, they can help you out heaps.

Come on down mate, I race in 540 pro and we would definitely welcome more chaps in the class!

While it's true that the TA04 isn't as competitive as many of the current touring cars, it's still a good car, and KROMA's 540pro class is more of a social, fun racing class than an out-and-out 'must win at all costs' class.

Just bring the car along, and basically focus on having a good time.

I hope to see you at the track!

Hi guys, when you get the addiction to 540 pro and want to go faster without spending the dollars (well not as much),at Templestowe you can run a 21.5 brushless system and get the benefits of all the new brushless speedies etc.,but thats only at TFTR at the minute. The 540 pro class is fun and you will learn heaps about racing lines and gearing.
