Nitro TC3 RTR Plus Review

The Features:

  • Shaft drive
  • Side-exhaust manifold and pipe.
  • Two-speed transmission.
  • Pre-glued high-grip treaded racing tires with foam inserts.
  • Associated Electrics radio system with Steering trim, Throttle trim, Throttle ATV high, Throttle ATV low, Steering dual rate.
  • High-performance .15-size 90-degrees-port ABC engine from Associated Electrics.
  • Ball bearings.
  • Protective front bumper, composite shocks, adjustable body mounts, quick-fill fuel tank.
  • Pivot ball type suspension with easily adjustable caster, camber and toe-in. Interchangable front and rear hub carriers.
  • Two painted body schemes to choose from.
  • 8-spoked chrome wheels.
  • Rechargeable glow igniter and fuel filler bottle included

The Pros:

  • Having a factory fitted 2 speed relieves the need to purchase it afterwards as a hopup
  • Comes “out of the box” with version 2 rear suspension again saving the need to purchase this as a hopup
  • Coming out of the box with a fuel refill bottle and glow igniter is a good idea saving the need to purchase these also
  • Buy this rtr (ready to run) and all you need is fuel and 12 AA batteries to run!

The Cons:

  • The recharger for the glow igniter is setup for the us power supply system (110v) making it useless here in Australia
  • Parts support for this car is NONEXISTENT period in this country
  • Even though it is a RTR it requires some checking of things (tightness of screws etc)
  • EVERY screw on it is imperial hex, I know what you are thinking why is this a con? The hex keys that come with it are softer than chalk and the sizes it requires make purchasing allen keys to suit very difficult

What Else Will You Need?

There are a few things that are needed to enable you to get the most fun from this car and speed up repair times:

  • Fuel, 12 X aa batteries an 8 mm socket of some description (I use a interchangeable tip screwdriver handle with a socket on it) to remove and insert glow plugs
  • Some good allen keys, which you will probably need to import
  • A charger of some description for the glow igniter (1.5v transformer wont work, it frys it)

Do I Need Hopups?

Well no you don’t, but the following would be advisable to allow finer ride height adjustment

  • Associated threaded shock shafts
  • Associated anodized aluminium shock caps
  • Unobtainium shock shafts (not completely neccecary, but if you are going to juice up the shocks why not do this too)

How does it run?

Team Associated claim its top speed at 40-45mph (65-73 km/h), I use my car on a extremely flat netball court made up of ashphalt and on the factory tyres it handles very well, the 3&1/2 turn setting (default) on the two speed is wrong and at this setting the car just will not shift into second gear (which is ideal for running in the engine), for an ae .15 engine it says to use 4 & ½ turns, I personally have found five turns to my liking.

What does it look like?

It comes with the choice of two pro-line crowd pleaser bodies in white and black these are pictured below.

Heres some pictures of the wheel the refill bottle and the charger and the two speed assembly:

Conclusion:

All in all I am very happy with this car it came with everything stated and ran very well straight out of the box, as yet I havn’t raced it against other vehicles but am confident that it will perform well and hopefully win races, due to the woeful spares availability here in Australia I believe it is hurting this car’s “penetration” into the Australian market, if you get one of these you will have to order spares & hopups from overseas for it.
